[re: v1] | This is my entry for Drakxxx's Custom Art Competition. I originally started out making Paper Mario, but I decided to go for Pokemon instead, and try something different. I loved how, in Pokemon Red and Blue, the characters on the front were Charizard and Blastoise, and not any type of legendary Pokemon. So I wanted to do that again for Pokemon Gold and Silver, but in a new style. I set out drawing Typhlosion for the cover of ShinyGold, to match his flames with the gold background. I used my custom DS template, and even made a few screenshots myself for the game from sprites. I drew Feraligatr for the cover of PureSilver, choosing to draw him as a real alligator, and not in his typical bipedal form. Both drawings were drawn by me by hand, and scanned into Photoshopped and then inked and colored in Photoshop. Anyways, hope you like it, I've spent the last week working on these drawings and the boxes, and if you like them enough, vote for me when Drakxxx posts my battle against TwilightMystics later this/next week! |

Great work developing these from paper to computer.. but i feel that the official artwork is aimed to be cute looking and slightly safer creatures for the audience its aimed at.. But rather than drawing me to the box.. it rather buts me off looking at these boxes.. As always i prefer official material and templates.. which is just the way i am.. and i cannot fav this box.. [re: v1] | Also, the original file size, even in jpg format, was 8.82 Mb... a 6000x2200 pxl image. So this one that you see now is actually 75% of 50% of that original file size. If the text on the back seems small, that's why. I was working on this at 300 DPI at absolutely ENORMOUS dimensions, so I had to shrink it down to fit it here. #7, I agree that the official artwork is aimed at children, or at least young audiences. However, given the aim of the Competition, I wanted to do something new for these. Put a spin on the classic, and not bring everyone the same, boring Pokemon box they're used to seeing. Vector art, slightly more agressive, realistic looking Pokemon, etc. And of course my custom DS template. That's just the way I am. :-p Anyway, I'm sorry you don't feel that it's fave-worthy. I worked very hard on this, longer than I have on really any other box I've ever made. If I stick around in the competition, maybe I'll make you some cutesy Wind Waker art. :-p Edited @ 4:23PM 03/18/09 |

[re: v1] | Looks good dude, I don't like how the backgrounds don't exactly follow the name of the game. Wouldn't you expect the Shiny Gold version to look more gold then red/orange? The Pure Silver one is a bit more true, but seems like more of a greyish blue. Other than those color issues, it's awesome. Love the Feraligatr drawing. |

[re: v1] | I can't help but feel displeased because I was planning on doing a Gold/Silver to compliment my R/B boxes, but if I had to choose anyone to beat me to the punch it'd be you, Koop. I dig this hard. The drawings are a bit too much of a departure for my tastes, but it's still quality work, and I love the template. Very sleek and modern. It's almost like Apple decided to design the covers. Good job, man. I can't wait to see Twilight's opposition. Oh, I almost forgot to mention the one thing that bothers me about it. The background on the covers is really generic photoshop filter "trippy background" stuff you find on "PCwallpapers.com" type websites. Even worse is that it's the same image for both covers. As far as it being the same image for both covers... link link link link link link link Every Pokemon Cover in the history of the series, other than Ruby and Sapphire, has had the same background for both covers, only flipped or colored differently. Not trying to attack, just trying to say that I kept the same image on purpose. |
