Saw some Half-Life bead sprites here ( link ) so I went ahead and made a sprite of Gordon Freeman & a headcrab based on those designs.

Made the 'black box' NES template from the ground up, and I created the screenshots myself.

I'm happy with the result and I'll definitely keep on doing these retro boxes.

Really awesome job. I've seen a lot of these new to old box designs, and this one definitely succeeds in all accounts.

#11, Nevermind mate, i figured it out after an hour of trying, lol.

Thanks anyway.

And it was the sphere underneath the box catching it's reflection that i was asking about.

#17, I never indicated that I designed the sprites myself. I said in the OP that I saw some bead sprites and just made them on the computer. Wasn't it obvious that I'd copy an existing design rather than make my own? I mean there's only so many ways you can make an 8-bit Gordon Freeman and headcrab.

I wasn't 100% on who made them though because even though Arcade Art had them online, I saw them and other Half-Life sprites at Magfest in January.

#19, Grand DID specify that he saw some bead sprites, and this is his own. You don't see Leonardo Di Vinci come on here when someone copies the vitruvian man. Granted he would find that hard, seeing as he IS dead, but still, you catch my drift.

#19, Your box art is low resolution and unrealistic because early games hardly ever featured the developer's name on the front. I also went ahead and made the back and the template. Your sprites were only the inspiration and a fair amount of work actually went in to recreating them in Photoshop pixel-by-pixel.

And you'd be surprised how many people on this site rip off DeviantArt without crediting. The only reason you're cheesed off is because you make money off your bead sprites.

I'm sorry for not crediting you but, like I said in the above post, I wasn't 100% they were yours. Bead sprites are everywhere and I had no real way of knowing the original designer. I've seen suspiciously similar Half-Life sprites (based on your designs) being sold as paintings, Legos, etc at video game conventions.

In the end, I took no profit from you because I received no profit from this and I felt that I did enough work on this box so that it is largely my own. But once again, I apologize.

Still, it's just a video game box art site and this being here poses no threat to your business. Besides, it's assumed on this site that the assets used were not the original work of the box artist unless explicitly stated.

If someone uses Final Fantasy artwork, he doesn't credit Yoshitaka Amano or Tetsuya Nomura even though both of them do sell art prints on their own sites. If someone uses official assets, no one credits the company or the no-name concept artist who slaved away for hours to create the artwork.

When I see a box with custom art work, I assume it was taken from somewhere else unless the author said "I drew this" or something. I figured that everyone else would assume the same of this. Yeah, I did, technically 'make' the sprites in that I started with a blank canvas in Photoshop and created them pixel-by-pixel, using your bead sprites as reference, but I obviously didn't design them.

Anyway, I have contacted Reed with a rewritten Original Post that he can edit in. And I have said that, should he deem it necessary, he can delete this box and I'll remake it with my own attempt at sprite design.

I'm cheesed off because it took such a lot of work to produce both the beadsprites and the box art, you may have taken time to re-create my stuff and put a sprite of a headcrab from one of my other sets on your version of the box art but this is clearly not your design work on the front of the box, it mimics everything about mine.

However long you take to justify it you didn't design the front of the box art, you should always credit other peoples stuff, there's really nothing else to say.

#22, most of the front is mine because I made that template from scratch using my NES collection as reference. It's a template and you hold no claim to the fundamental design of the 'Black Box' NES.

The fact is, I did design the front in that I made the template. I certainly didn't copy yours because (a) yours doesn't look official and (b) it's incredibly low resolution.

I'm confident to say that most of this box is my own work. Sorry again for remaking your sprites but the only thing you can claim credit for is the arrangement of the pixels. I still put an entire evening of work into this and while it was my mistake not to post a link to your DeviantArt page, I never said I designed the sprites.

But nothing you say will make me regret my creating this box because I think it looks shitloads better than yours and, more importantly, I enjoyed making it. No matter how tedious and time-consuming it was.

Wow. Controversy. Good job, ArcadeArt, for being the inspiration for Grand's totally awesome box that he did more than enough to to credit it as his own. Good job, Grand.
